The disease transmission is done as a result of animal biting. Rabies virus is present in high amount in saliva. After coming in contact with the virus, the bitten animal may go through different phages: prodromal phage, furious phage, paralytic phage, etc.

If the dog bites a human, the animal is kept under observation for some time just to ensure that the animal has rabies or not. People suffering from rabies are given five-shot exposure series of Human Rabies Immune Globulin for protection.
