In some states in the US, every year dogs must get vaccination for rabies because of the fast spreading of the disease when left unwatched. Also, when a puppy if born, vaccinations are usually administered frequently. Six weeks, nine weeks, three months, and fifteen weeks- these are the age when puppies are given vaccinations. After that, annual vaccinations are now needed.

The disease transmission is done as a result of animal biting. Rabies virus is present in high amount in saliva. After coming in contact with the virus, the bitten animal may go through different phages: prodromal phage, furious phage, paralytic phage, etc.

Diagnosis: In the present time, rabies diagnosis in animals is done utilizing skin or blood samples.

Treatment: As far as disease treatment is concerned, there is no treatment. Therefore prevention is better than cure.

Vaccination: this is the best way for the prevention of rabies infection. Rabies vaccination for dogs is mandatory and every pet owner should take it seriously. If the dog bites a human, the animal is kept under observation for some time just to ensure that the animal has rabies or not. How vaccinations work against diseases?

In common parlance, vaccination is done to stimulate dog’s immune system so as to protect the body against diseases. However, a minimum of two multivalent vaccinations, which mainly include distemper and parvo are given over three months period.

In case of young puppies, vaccination can be done at six to eight weeks of age and should be given every 3 to 4 weeks until the puppy reaches almost 16 weeks of age.
